The Specialist Smokers' Clinic is a specialist service offering support and advice to those smokers who are motivated to want to quit, but find it difficult to stop on their own.
The clinics are primarily hosted at the North Middlesex Hospital in Edmonton, and we also run satellite clinics at St Michael's Centre in Chase Side, North Enfield and at Crouch End Health Centre in Haringey.
The treatment programme itself is free of charge and offers group support and advice with the use of medication (Zyban or Nicotine Replacement Therapy).
Not everyone is able to take Zyban, it is only available on prescription from a GP. They will need to look, in detail, at your medical history. The other option for quitters is Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), which can be used by anyone and alongside any other medications that you may be taking at present. At the Specialist Smokers' Clinics, we offer vouchers for FREE NRT - patches, gum, lozenges etc - to ALL people attending the treatment programme.
It is important for quitters to remember that neither medication is a magic cure, but they will help with cravings and withdrawal in the first weeks and months of quitting. It should also be noted that neither medication - Zyban or NRT - is more effective than the other in helping you stop. There has been a great deal of research and it has been proven that both medications are equally as effective... by using either medication you will double your chances of successfully stopping!
However, by coming to the clinic, you will also experience the benefits of group support, which has been proven to double your chances again!!
